Lake McDonald at Glacier National Park

*** Hiking Safely In Grizzly Country

It’s hard to miss Lake McDonald when going to Glacier National Park. You drive past it on Going-to-the-Sun Road, it’s one of the first things you see when getting into the park. One day after hiking Johns Lake Loop we decided to stop on the shore of the lake and do some fishing. We used cut bait we bought from Zimmer Tackle near Mt. Forge and casted out and just hung out. About fifteen minutes later we had a visitor. A beautiful deer walked right up behind us and hung out right next to us for the next hour. He even went and got a couple friends to join the party. Shortly after our buddy joining us one of the poles started going crazy. Next thing you know we hauled in a couple Lake Trout! It was a beautiful Montana day and an experience we’ll never forget.

Lake McDonald has tons of trails around, kayaking, and boat tours as well as a lodge you can stay in. It’s one of the most popular regions of the park. I’ll update this post when we do some more activities!
