Johns Lake Loop Hike at Glacier National Park

*** Hiking Safely In Grizzly Country

Glacier National Park is open! Due to the COVID crisis, Glacier National Park has remained closed until now. Going-to-the-Sun Road was only open to Lake McDonald Lodge on this day, but we were so happy to just be inside. We parked at the lodge and started walking up Going-to-the-Sun Road. Within ten minutes of walking we saw a Grizzly bear cross the road! It was a first for us both and it was so awesome to see.

We then turned off the road into Johns Lake Loop. It’s a very easy hike through some dense woods to a small lake buried in the woods. It was a quiet and enjoyable experience, but definitely not as spectacular and intense as a lot of other hikes at Glacier. After the lake loop we crossed back over Going-to-the-Sun Road to a beautiful bridge that crosses the creek and passes two beautiful waterfalls. It was a great first day back at Glacier for the season. We even went fishing and caught some fish afterwards!
